One challenging incident was duringmy final semester in nursing school, where I was instructed by my mentor to administerintramuscular injections to an agitated patient. After performing all the necessary steps andprocedures, it was time to fill the syringe with the drug and carry out the injection. I held up thepatient’s arm to locate a vein that I would drive the needle through. My mentor, a RegisteredNurse, had left the room briefly. After realizing that I was unable to locate a vein and the patientwas getting angry, I felt like just placing the needle anyway within his arm as long as I carriedout what would be termed as administration of intramuscular injections. Although I did not loseit completely, the incident almost took away my entire confidence. All the same, I decided toapply my knowledge, skill, professional judgment, and accountability to have the process gosuccessful (Butts & Rich, (.n.d).
