Introduction.Getting the world to a point where everyone has economic, social, and physical accessto safe, sufficient, and nutritious food which is satiating all their dietary requirements for ahealthy and active life is one milestone that the world governments have not been able toachieve. Many agencies in the government are mandated with protecting the health of thepublic. In the United States of America, the federal government has created seven agencies tohandle matters of environment, food and drugs, consumer products, occupation and health, traffic, nuclear, and aviation matters. In this paper, however, I shall be looking at the arm thatensures that there is food security in specific countries like Food and Drug Administration(FDA), does in the United States. The United Nations set an agency to lead the world indefeating hunger. This agency is known as the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Inthe research, the reports shall seek to bring to light the reasons why food security has been avery difficult feat to achieve. This document posits that the major hindrances to food securityin the world are the rising rate of population increase as well as the long unprecedenteddroughts that together catalyze the lowering of the production of food and disrupt thedistribution of the food to those with need.1. Problem Statement and Hypothesis.Prior to the year 10974, there were global concerns on the dropping food volume andthe stability of food supplies. Defined at the World Food Summit of 1974, the Food andAgriculture Organization (FAO) defined food security as the availability of sufficient suppliesof basic foodstuffs to sustain the increasing global demand for food and to balance the ongoingfluctuations in the production and the prices of foodstuffs (“Chapter 2. Food security: Conceptsand measurement [21],” n.d.). The concepts of food security have since then evolved to whatFOOD SECURITY4is regarded today. All the same, these definitions narrow down to the fact that whenever peoplelack access to sufficient and nutritious food due to economic, social or physical hindrances, there is an issue of food insecurity. The global demand for food is therefore not complicated.Research shows that by 2050, the global population will have grown to 9 billion people. Thedemand for food will have grown by 60% of its level today. The situation is so dire that out ofthe 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations to be achieved by2030; food security is the second (“Chapter 2. Food security: Concepts and measurement [21],”n.d.). To get to this milestone, however, we got to address the host matters that are affectingthe production of food all around the world within the remaining decade. If we cannot feedpeople, the practicality of all economic and societal sectors will be lost. This research proposalis set to find the correlation between the rising global population and the climatic changes thathave caused too frequent and severe droughts with the dropping volume of foodstuff and theoverwhelmed production of food. The theorization is that higher populations and increasedclimate change are the highest causes of food insecurities in the world.2. Literature Review. The African continent is one of the most affected continents as far as food security isconcerned. Statistical postulation indicates that the African continent could increase itspopulation by a rate of 100% by the year 2050. Currently, the African population isapproximately 1 billion, this number to get to 2 billion in a matter of 30 years (“Food security,”n.d.). As if this is not enough, urbanization is increasingly becoming more rampant in theseregions. A projection of 2.5 billion people is expected to opt for urbanized settlements in Asiaand Africa. According to a study by the World Resources Institute (WRI), the increase inpopulation increases the demand for food and the increase in urbanized populations, lowers theworkforce behind the production of food (“Population growth and climate change in the Sahel:FOOD SECURITY5An emerging humanitarian disaster,” 2015). The unfolding crisis in the next 30 years mightprove to be so dire and cause these regions and the world as a whole a lot of pain. The WRIrecommends a plan to reduce the rate at which the population is growing.A study by Chawarika (2016) sort to identify the constraints that are affecting foodsecurity in Zimbabwe and population growth received a lot of citing. The population isbecoming a critical element in shaping the security of food. The population is increasing at arate higher than the rate of the food supply. This uncontained growth creates a significant gapin the supply of food, and developing countries end up feeling the greatest hit. In hisrecommendations, Chawarika (2016) stated that the present nutritional programs arecontinually losing their initial impact due to the changing demographics. The change in thelegislator will help in offsetting the deficits that are there today. The modes of nutrition willneed to change, so is the means of production to cover the present need (Chawarika, 2016).An increase in temperature changes, climate variability, and precipitation are all signsof climate change. Lately, the world has been experiencing extreme and more frequent extremeweather events (Ogunrotimi & Kayode, 2019). These events include heavier and more frequentdownpours, frequent hurricanes, adverse and prolonged droughts, and so much more. Thesechanges, according to Ogunrotimi & Kayode (2019), these changes affect water availabilitywhich in turn disrupts the length and the timing of the growing season. The distribution of theagriculturally active zones is also shifting due to the stressed on the ecosystem from the effectsof erosion, biological degradation and salinization. As a result of these disruptions, Ogunrotimi& Kayode (2019) have found that despite there being an increase in the annual agriculturalyield, the expected production in relation to the demand for food, ahs dropped as a result ofclimate change. The increase in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has some double entendre effects onagriculture. Fann et al. (2016) indicated that some crops get more nourished when there is moreFOOD SECURITY6carbon dioxide in the air than not. The only problem is that the plants that are growing in theseconditions end up demanding way more concentrations and balanced supplies of water, soilmoisture, nutrient levels, and so many other growth conditions. While these conditions are noteasy to balance in today’s times, the increase in carbon dioxide has its other effects damagingour aquatic life and threatening the survival of so many other species that indirectly affectagriculture on land. This has been as a result of increased temperatures. You see, high carbondioxide concentrations in the air mean that more heat from the sun will be trapped within theatmosphere. But even as the review of these two factors on the yield of agriculture, it is equallyimportant…
