Assume that your audience has already read the play, so you want to avoid retelling the plot in your essay.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Your purpose is to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the play through your own analysis and the critical analysis of others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Your essay should be about either\u00a0<span>Trifles or\u00a0<\/span><span>As You Like It.\u00a0<\/span>A third option is to look at an important element in both of the plays, but this would be more challenging!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Though you may cover the theme in your essay,\u00a0<span>you will broaden your scope and look for bigger issues, such as the play\u2019s relevance in relation to culture and our identity. Topics like gender roles, socioeconomic influences, and literary movements\u2013like romanticism and realism\u2013may also be explored.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Like your previous essay assignments, your essay should have an introduction\u2014with a thesis statement, supporting paragraphs, and a conclusion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Source material: Each supporting paragraph should have at least one quote from the play and one quote from one of your references. Make sure you use all of your references in your essay.
