Topic: β-catenin driven cancers of colon cancer


Intestinal cancer is initiated by Wnt-pathway-activating mutations in genes such as adenomatous polyposis coli (APC). The acquisition of biallelic mutations in the APC gene is a rate-limiting step in the development of most colorectal cancers and occurs in the earliest lesions. The aim of this project is to explore this vulnerability as an approach to treat this population of colon cancer patients.

Background


A literature review is a critical review or analysis of published sources (the literature) on a particular topic. The aim of a literature review is to summarise and critically evaluate the literature to establish current knowledge of a topic. For this assignment your literature review also needs to identify a gap in the literature which you will address with a scientific hypothesis. A literature review is not an essay. In an essay you argue a point of view while in a literature review you critically analyse the knowledge that has been discovered about a topic. Learning objectives The learning objectives for this assignment are:


1.Identify, evaluate and effectively communicate key concepts and results and theirimplications from recent publications in the field of cancer biology and translational cancer research;


2.Analyse, interpret and present data from a range of experiment types and discussthis in the context of current scientific literature.


3.Review and critique scientific literature relevant to a specified scientific question to formulate a scientific hypothesis to underpin a research project in the field of cancer biology. Your task You will work individually or in a pair to conduct a comprehensive research and analysis of the literature relevant to your chosen topic and present the information in the form of a literature review.


Your literature review should include figures to help the reader understand integral and/or complex concepts or pathways. Make sure to reference the figures if they are not your own and have appropriate figure legends (title and caption) describing the figure. Only use figures that are relevant to your review and help deliver your message – the figures should not be used as a filler! Consult the marking rubric for more specific details.
