Collection of work – The Learner will produce evidence of appropriate work carried out over a period of time which clearly demonstrates achievement of a range of learning outcomes 1,2,3,4,6,7,8,9,10,11
Please note: All tasks are to be completed as outlined in the brief. All sections of work should be submitted for correction together. Submission of individual sections will not be corrected.

Section 1 Lo (7,8)
Task 1 – Preparation of personal CV (5%)
Instructions: Prepare your own current CV on two pages for submission:
CV must be word processed using a recognised style –(maximum 2 pages) CV should be structured in a presentable fashion (headings, logical order, reverse chronology) All essential components, personal details, education, qualifications, referees etc included CV should be proof read and error free

(Include a draft of the CV which demonstrates reading, proofing and editing)
Note: You will present your CV in an interview in second part of your assessment outlined in the Skills Demonstration brief.
Section 2 Lo (2,9) Task 2 – Legislation (5%)

Learner will research and outline three significant pieces of communication and safety legislation including correct titles and dates Learner will demonstrate with examples of how these apply in the ECCE setting Learner will reflect on the importance of legislation References must be given to sources used. 500 Words Section 3 Los (7,8,11) Task 3- Present a formal business letter (5%) Instructions:
As supervisor write a formal letter to the Child Care Committee requesting a representative from their organisation to sit on your interview panel for a new childcare position.(Max 1 page)

Instructions:
Produce a non-verbal visual poster.
Produce a simple non verbal message on an A4 page relating to some aspect of the childcare setting. Using visual / non verbal images/graphics and colours to convey the message. This can be in IT format or by hand .
Give a short evaluation to include: How non verbal communication impacts on everyday human interaction, how you read and researched the ideas for your visual aid, and the effectiveness of the message for children/parents.

Section 5: Lo(8,9) Task 5 – Sustained piece of writing (10%)
Instructions:
The learner is to research and produce a short essay on an area in childcare that they have an interest in. The essay should be word processed.
Suggested topics: The ECCE scheme The changes in regulations The importance of observations How Aistear or Siolta promotes learning and development The role of the adult in childcare The importance of reading to improve emergent literacy The importance of play in facilitating holistic development

The writing should denote:
An interesting choice of topic and rationale for choosing it Good structure and paragraphing Correct grammar, spelling and punctuation Fluency of style and expression and correct tone used Evidence of research with the textual references and bibliography

Note: The topic chosen for the sustained piece of writing will be the same topic to be used in your oral presentation).
800- 1000 Words Section 6. SLO(1,9) Task 6 – Critique/review an issue/topic (5%)
Instructions:
Learners are required to research and critique current issues in Communications And Information Technology ICT and use in the childcare setting to include the following information:
Description of types of ICT being used Use of critical thinking skills to critique research e.g. valid arguments for and against ICT use Identification of research used to investigate the topic (min two sources referenced in text and bibliography)

Task 7 – Written communication for a group discussion meeting & effective use of ICT (10%)
Instructions:
The Learner is to devise written communication documents to conduct a formal meeting with staff to discuss a policy on the use of ICT in the childcare setting.
In producing the documents the learner will use a range of IT skills. including:
Word processing and printing Creating a computer generated template Emailing Internet search and download Tasks for meeting:
1. Devise a memo informing staff of the meeting. This should include the date time and venue in the correct layout and format with good spelling and grammar, correct dates and information.
(This is to be emailed to an attendee of the meeting and a reply given). One copy of the email with the reply, is to be printed for your work; ensure it has contact details i.e. all emails have the date, time and sender and recipient details on the original email’.(this is evidence of sending the email)
2.An agenda for the meeting is to be created, word processed and printed to include: A minimum of five agenda items laid out in the correct format Good spelling, grammar and punctuation.
The main subject for the agenda is ‘Draft a policy on the use of ICT in the childcare setting, including; mobile phones, cameras, tablets, laptops, face book, etc… (maximum1 page)

3. Create a blank template to record the minutes of the meeting (using word or office). The template is to include the correct format and structure with an indication outcomes and actions and good spelling grammar and punctuation. (maximum1 page)
4. A handout is to be downloaded and printed for the meeting.
This is to be one piece of research relating directly to the main agenda topic i.e. ‘Drafting a policy on ICT in the child care setting’. This must include the website address on it and date accessed. This is to be put with this piece of work in the portfolio (maximum1 page)

Assessment Activity Description and Instructions to Learner:– Skills Demonstration Series of Practical Learning tasks.
Guidelines:
The Learner will be involved in practical learning in the form of Skills Demonstrations facilitated & recorded by the Provider/Tutor, the learner will be assessed in a number of areas including:
Skills Demonstration 1 – An Oral presentation Skills Demonstration 2-Meeting /Group discussion Skills Demonstration 3- Interview
Assessment of the learner during the tasks will demonstrate their ability to use:
Verbal communication Skills – Preparation of role, voice control (including tone & audibility), clarity of spoken message, relevance of contribution, turn-taking, negiotation & sustained interest will be considered.
Active Listening Skills – Facilitated & recorded by the Provider/Tutor, the learner will be assessed on careful listening skills via the principles of active listening – rapport building through responses, paraphrasing & summarising.
3. Non-verbal Communcation Skills – A task to be facilitated & recorded by the Provider/Tutor, the learner will be assessed in the areas associated to positive body language including gesticulation, appropriateness of eye contact, posture engagement with audience & overall image projected.

Please note:
All tasks are to be completed as outlined in the brief all skills demonstrations must be recorded with the learner showing ID at the start of each one. All recording should be checked for suitability for marking before sending to Chevron Training e.g. picture quality, sound and full recordings.
The three recordings must be submitted in one of following formats:

Leave all videos in your Dropbox until you receive final statement of results. Any deleted videos cannot be viewed by the assessor.

Skills Demonstrations (50%) Section 1. Los(2,9,10) Skills Demonstration 1 – Oral presentation- Total 20 marks Instructions:
The learner will research a chosen topic in childcare (Topic chosen in Task 5 in collection of work). The learner will demonstrate vocal and interactive skills in personal and professional contexts, and give an oral presentation to a small group. Students must gather 4 people to present to (i.e. staff of childcare facility where they are doing work experience or friends/family).
The presentation should be between 8-10 minutes long. Thoroughly researched and evidence apparent in the use of good practice points and legislation referred to in presentation. The presentation must be well prepared and at least one visual aid should be used. (visual aids that may be used to support your presentation flip chart, posters, PowerPoint, Props or any other suitable aid)
You will be assessed on the following points:

( Notes and prompt cards may be used to show preparation however these should not just be read constantly and overtake the verbal interaction required for the presentation) Process for submission of Communications Skills Demonstration for Oral Presentation: Students are required to carry out an oral presentation on a child care topic of their choice. Section 2. Los(1,5,6,10,11)
Skills Demonstration 2. Group discussion 15 marks
Instructions: The learner must prepare for a group meeting/discussion on a topic relating to childcare (Topic chosen in Task 7 in the collection of work ‘Drafting a Policy On Use Of ITC In The Ecce Setting’. You must gather four friends/family or colleagues and record the discussion. The discussion should be between 5-8 minutes long. You will lead and facilitate the discussion.
You will be assessed on the following:
Learner demonstrates a positive contribution to group discussion (2) Observes conventions of interpersonal interaction using good eye contact and listening(2) Respects others to have their opinion with tact, diplomacy, empathy and patience (2) Adopts good non-verbal cues in signalling, positive listening, clarification (2) Keeps aim/goal/task in view staying on track with discussion topic(2) Shows assertiveness and can move discussion forward (2) Self-confidence in helping move the group to a decision/conclusion(3)

After the student has completed their oral presentation to their group of 4 people, these 4 people will then participate in a group discussion with the student which will again be visually recorded. You may have to reorganise seating before you begin Your discussion is on ‘Drafting a Policy On Use Of ITC In The Ecce Setting’ At the beginning of the group discussion recording, the student must again present their ID to the camera and clearly state their chosen topic for discussion. You are then required to record a shot of your audience. Camera will then focus on the student for the discussion Students can put presentation recording on a USB memory stick and post to Chevron Training for correction, it can also be submitted via Dropbox. If you have used a PowerPoint presentation/hand-out/visual aid for your discussion, you are required to submit these with your recordings/written work also to Chevron Training. Students that do not follow the above guidelines will receive 0 marking.

Section 3. Los(5,10)

Skills Demonstration 3. Interview 15 marks Los (5,10)
Instructions:
You will ask a member of staff or the manager/supervisor in a childcare facility to interview you based on your CV. and career plans. The interview will last 5-10 mins. The interview will be video taped with the video clearly focused on the candidate who answering the questions.
Questions should relate to:
Your skills and experience on your CV Where you see your career going in the future The area in childcare you would most like to work and why What you can bring to the childcare sector Your future plans for training You will be assessed on the following:

At the beginning of the recording, the student must again present their ID to the camera and clearly state the purpose of the demonstration i.e. interview to demonstrate verbal and listening skills. You are then required to record a shot of your interviewer. Camera will then focus on the student for the interview Students can put presentation recording on a USB memory stick and post to Chevron Training for correction, it can also be submitted via Dropbox. Students that do not follow the above guidelines will receive 0 marking Note: The camera/recording device must be in close vicinity to the student in order for the assessor to hear and be able to mark the skills demonstrations. Please check that the recording can be heard on your own laptop/computer before submitting to Chevron Training for marking.

Please note submissions are not returned to learners, eg. USBs. All sections of work should be submitted for correction together. Submission of individual sections will not be corrected.
