In Topic 3, you completed an outline for your Individual Development Plan. At this point, you will select two activities to implement with your mentee. The two activities can be related to the same discipline or you can try and introduce separate activities that work on separate areas of growth. For example, if your mentee is working in listening skills, you can have the mentee create a written description of personal experiences with listening over the past few weeks. This would allow you to use techniques to redirect the mentee’s listening behavior during certain experiences. In addition, you could task the mentee with the opportunity to engage in a listening activity with another coworker or friend. This scenario could utilize some of the techniques you provided based on results from the first activity. Or, you can develop an activity for listening and an activity for communicating with others. You need to evaluate your current mentoring experience and create activities that will benefit your learning experience and your mentee’s mentoring experience. You will have the next 2 weeks to complete this portion of your assignment. The activity can be a written requirement, physical requirement, or an activity that initiates a behavioral change over a predetermined timeframe. As your mentee is working through the activity, monitor the progress and utilize any coaching or mentoring techniques necessary to guide your mentee to be successful. You must spend a minimum of 3 hours monitoring and working with your mentee for each activity. If you are in a location that prevents conducting the activity face-to-face, please use technology or additional resources to ensure you are providing a positive coaching and mentoring experience for your mentee.
Once you have submitted the outline, you will be required to begin developing a timeline in order to implement a minimum of two activities with your mentee. In addition, complete a 250-500 word reflection on the information you have obtained through the monitoring process. This could consist of a performance indicator chart along with a brief explanation of the current status in the coaching/mentoring process. You are only required to submit your reflection at this time.

Individual Development Plan Outline (Week 3) Activities to Meet Short-Term Goals: Time Management Plan: Create a time management calendar and a “to do” daily list. By doing so, Harley will be creating a plan of action and milestone to get to those daily, weekly, and monthly goals. Shipboard Qualification and Prerequisite: Having to complete this short-term goal is by completing and being determined to get her signature for those prerequisites. Taking notes and studying as she learns from the subject matter experts. Choosing a School: Harley needs to do her homework and figure out what school will best go with her busy schedule and is military friendly. She also needs to figure out if the school is willing to transfer her credits if she does not choose an online school. Established a Degree Plan: Establishing a degree plan is easy, all she has to figure out is what she wants her undergraduate in have her counselor do all the work. (Week 3) Activities to Meet Long-Term Goals: Promotion/ Advance to the Next Paygrade: Harley needs to start studying at least an hour a day when the promotion exam study material gets release. If she does this method, she will not have to cram and also, she will understand the material better and be well prepared for the promotion exam. Enrolling in Naval Courses and Collateral Duties: Enrolling in Naval courses is easy. But once enrolled she needs to start studying those material. She should enroll in courses that will help her get promoted. So, she can knockout two for one. Qualify for the Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist: Equivalent to the Shipboard Qualification, the same rule applies. However, Harley needs to complete the Shipboard Qualification first before she can enroll in this program. Complete an Associate Degree/ General Studies: By utilizing a time management skill and following it up to the minute is very important to complete her very busy goals. It is very achievable as long a she is determined. (Week 3) Mentoring Techniques (to support the predetermined activities): I believe the best Mentoring Technique with these predetermined activities is to use the one on one mentoring technique. I will follow up with Harley in a week basis at first to see where she is at in her goals. Then, when I realize that she has a hang of it, I will follow up with her every two weeks at the minimum. This will continue until it she is ready for me to move it to a monthly basis. Another type of Mentoring Technique I would use is situational mentoring. With this type of mentoring, I can focus on the event that she is currently in. I can use this to assist her in the current situation she is on now and guide her to get to the next step of her goal (Lawrence, Levy, Martin, & Strother-Taylor, 2008). Constructive feedback is another technique that may be used to receive information that I may get from Harley to see how the work is coming along and what changes or adjustment that we may have to do. This will allow me to identify behaviors that may limit her and allowing her to reach certain goals (Hudson, 2013). (Week 3) Coaching Techniques (to support the predetermined activities): The type of Coaching Techniques I will use for Harleys predetermined activities would be Performance, Skill and Personal. I will utilize Performance Coaching to increase her effectiveness and productivity at work. This will aid her in staying competitive against her colleagues and will give her the higher evaluation toward her promotion. So, if she does average in her promotion exam, the higher evaluation can assist her. For her skill coaching, this will have her focus on her skill to perform toward her career. This will assist in her shipboard qualifications and time management skill. As her Personal Coach, this will assist her in a huge life change from being a non-student to a full-time undergraduate student. It is something that will not take overnight to do and may take weeks to get use to (Herd & Russell, 2010). (Week 3) Obstacles or Concerns: The Obstacles or Concerns that Harley may face is when trying to achieve her short- and longterm goals is giving up or just being burnt out. I know personally that it does happen and having to push through and seeing the end goal will push Harley even more. Another obstacle is unforeseen life events out of her control. If this does happen, she may not reach her goal on the time frame that she would like. But I will remind her that it is okay, and she just have to shift and adjust her goal. The focus is to finish and reaching that goal is the end point.
