Finally, a third group of participants to consider interviewing would be representatives from local Colorado Springs academic institutions.From these individuals, a phenomenological approach to a qualitative study would obtain a comprehensive understanding of what they believe to be the needs of tomorrow’s cybersecurity professionals.
From a data collection perspective, the information gathered from a qualitative phenomenological design approach may augment the understanding of the internal difficulties experienced by the federal labor market not seen or experienced by managers and organizations in the commercial cyber sector.Through obtaining the perspective of organizations focused on providing client service to the government sector, government’s understanding of the complexity experienced by contracting firm’s ability to provide a skilled cyber workforce could result in sourcing a solution to collaboratively address each respective entity’s problems.From the academic perspective, an educator’s understanding of required skills and additional barriers to entry may be improved through socialization of those perspectives of contracting firms and contract procurement and manager’s in the federal sector from those skills and barriers to entry into the cyber workforce experienced by the commercial sector.

The qualitative research method consists of five commonly used designs: case study (understanding a single individual in-depth), ethnography (understanding behavioral impacts on a group), phenomenological (understanding from subjects’ point of view), grounded theory (derive a theory from observing data in a natural setting) and content analysis (identification of features of a body of material) where each design consists of varying methods of analysis (Leedy & Ormrod, 2016) . The phenomenological design method is based on a constructivist approach, meaning that people acquire understanding and knowledge based on their surrounding environment (Venkatesh, Brown, & Sullivan, 2016) . Some qualitative researchers believe that when applying a phenomenological design, quantitative methods may only supplement a predominately qualitative design to address specific tasks (Stickler & Hampel, 2015) . Given that a phenomenological study focuses on the intricate detail from a small sample size, the method supports a mixed-method approach (Leedy & Ormrod, 2016) .
A research plan based on considering the effects of capability management on corporate competitiveness requires aspects of both understanding and explaining phenomena. Since a hermeneutic or phenomenological approach to the qualitative analysis of understanding is a reasonable choice when considering a mixed-method approach, this research plan might consider a phenomenological study as an advantageous method given the opportunity to leverage verbose interview sessions as an instrument for data collection providing a cross-cutting view of the problem domain (Leedy & Ormrod, 2016; Stickler & Hampel, 2015) . The advantages of a phenomenological study include the discovery of meaningful concepts, which can be coupled with quantitative analysis for the development of new insights, which is the objective of the research plan (Venkatesh et al., 2016) . Lastly, given the unstructured nature of a phenomenological study, opportunity exists for exploration and discovery of detail otherwise unconsidered (Leedy & Ormrod, 2016) .

First, the design method aligns well with a mixed-method approach, a strong consideration for the research plan (Venkatesh et al., 2016) . Secondly, a phenomenological study enables the researcher a discovery method unburdened by a structured set of survey questions, but rather an open-ended opportunity for learning (Stickler & Hampel, 2015) . Lastly, the approach seeks to obtain meaningful concepts, providing a diverse perspective on drivers towards the problem domain (Leedy & Ormrod, 2016) .
