Papers – 10% of your grade. You will complete 2 essay papers on any topic from the textbook you choose. The topic does not have to be from the chapters we cover; any topic in the textbook is fine. In the papers, you will explain your topic, why you chose it, and discuss the topic for the remainder of the paper. For example, you can provide examples of the topic. Those examples can be real-world examples from your own life, movies/books/TV shows that covered the topic, examples you make up, etc. Alternatively, you can discuss how the topic has affected your life, or argue against a theory, etc. How you discuss the topic is up to you. However, do not give me information I can read in the textbook. I don’t care what other people have to say about these topics – I care what you have to say. Do not just summarize the information in the textbook – I am looking for your thoughts/experiences/etc.
Paper requirements – The papers must be 2 full pages in length, double-spaced, 12-point type, in Times New Roman font. You may use 1 line at the top of the first page of the paper for your title. Do NOT put your name or any other information – you are turning the papers in on Canvas, and that information will not be necessary. No sources except the textbook may be used, and NO QUOTATIONS are allowed. You do NOT need to provide a references page. If you do not follow these instructions, or if your paper is not the full 2 pages required, you will lose points. ONLY MICROSOFT WORD OR PDF FILES WILL BE ACCEPTED. The average of your 2 papers will be worth 10% of your grade.
Grading Rubric for the papers – 20% of your paper grade will be based on following the directions in the syllabus. 80% of your paper grade will be based on your discussion of the topic. You will lose points if you do not write 2 full pages as required. For example, if you only turn in 1 and ½ pages, you will lose 25% of your grade, as you only turned in 75% of the required length.
