Capital Punishment
Historically, the most prevalent execution methods in the United States have included lethal injection, electrocution, gas chamber, hanging, and tree hanging. Despite the fact that various execution procedures have been considered unlawful by state courts, the Supreme Court has never ruled that they violate the Constitution. As lethal injection is currently the predominant method of execution in every state, judicial decisions regarding older methods may have been postponed.
Certain nations now permit the use of alternatives to lethal injection in the event that drug manufacturers refuse to sell the pharmaceuticals often used in fatal injections. As a result of debates over the execution method, many states have delayed executions, resulting in a drop in the total use of the death sentence. Murder is the deliberate killing of another individual. In the majority of societies, murder is seen as a serious crime, and those found guilty face harsh punishment from the government. It is an illegal state execution, as opposed to one conducted in accordance with a legal procedure. A death-sentenced individual may spend years in jail before being killed and may be granted many stays of execution while appeals are pending or judicial review is conducted.
Several nations have abolished the death sentence, and only a handful employ it at now. In the majority of modern nations, the death sentence is used less frequently for crimes such as murder. In the majority of countries that still employ the death penalty, it is reserved for the most heinous crimes, such as murder, treason, and war crimes, as well as for the protection of society from crime and violence. Other nations, however, have recently eliminated the death penalty for certain offenses, including drug- felonies. After the abolition of the death penalty in some European nations in the aftermath of World War II, Westerners are increasingly acknowledging that the death penalty can be justifiable on occasion.
Peer Post #2
In 2017 there was a tragic accident where eight people were killed when an unknown individual decided to run them over with a vehicle where these individuals later died. The suspect later identified as Saipov, an Islamic male. Saipov, 26 at the time of the incident, convicted at age 35 is facing the death penalty for his crime that was executed about 6 years earlier. Leaning more towards the way Van Den Haan thought and his views regarding the death penalty would have him be on board using the death penalty. He argues that even though the death penalty may not stop future criminals from committing criminal acts in the future, it could make one criminal think twice. Van Den Haan argues that you do not execute someone to deter others, it’s to receive punishment for the things that person., themselves, caused. I believe Van Daan Haan leans towards ‘an eye for an eye”. When Saipov was interviewed, it was stated that he felt no remorse for his actions that took several individuals lives. According to the interviewers, Saipov did not show remorse for his actions and even had a grin on his face when reminiscing about what he had done. Haan implied the goal of the death penalty was to penalize the person who committed the crimes, and not to make them suffer more or less than their victims since we cannot ever surely know how much the victim suffered exactly. Haan also had a stance that the death penalty would not endorse killing. Using this example, getting a speeding ticket does not encourage you to speed more. It makes you second guess, even if it you did not receive the ticket. By just knowing that it is a possibility, you are more inclined to watch your speed.
