Businesses are motivated to adopt (i.e., to articulate and implement) policies either to establish leadership on a file or in response to a crisis or looming threat. It is a major task that takes
leadership to implement and see through to transformative practice. This assignment is limited to articulation of a high level policy: assume that implementation of the policy will be determined by division and department leaders, and is outside the scope of the handbook.
Develop a short handbook for new employees that presents a high-level company approach to community relations, identifying company values and objectives with respect to its
own “brand” and corporate culture, and making a clear connection to the goals of community development and capacity building for communities affected by operations. Your approach should be informed by Chapter 13 in Zandvliet. If you do not have business management experience, as many of you will not, you will need to rely on your imagination to put
Zandvliet’s advice into creation of your guide. Your assignment should be presented in the form of a welcome or onboarding guide for new employees. Demonstrate awareness of best
