Coursework 2 Research Proposal

The research proposal is a work plan for your prospective Dissertation\/Project in the Honours year. It is to be 2,500 words (\u00b110% acceptable) excluding the references section at the end of your proposal.

Your research proposal should align with your programme of study and be oriented towards the dissertation. Your proposal must relate to your discipline-specific pathways\/programme. For example, if you are undertaking a BA (Hons) in International Business and Finance then your proposal (which leads to your dissertation) should align with the pathway discipline i.e. your proposal\/dissertation must relate to a Finance topic. This is very important, to ensure that your dissertation allows you to earn sufficient credits in the appropriate subjects to merit the award of your degree (in this case a joint degree \u2013 \u2018and finance\u2019).

It is expected that your proposal topic will become your dissertation topic. It is very rare that you would change your topic from proposal to dissertation, and that would only be accepted after providing a detailed rationale to the Dissertation module leader.

The research proposal should consider the following areas:

\u00b7 A definition and significance of the topic to be investigated;

\u00b7 The proposal\u2019s aim, objectives and critical research question(s) to demonstrate that both the aim and research questions arise out of scholarly literature;

\u00b7 References to academic literature as appropriate;
<
\u00b7 The research approach and methods that will be used to explore the topic under investigation supported by clear rationales for your selection;

\u00b7 Bibliography that shows sources cited in the text
